NREIP Internship
Naval Surface and Warfare Center
Corona, California
Feb 2019 - Aug 2019
During the summer after my freshman year of college, I was a Mechanical Engineer Intern in the Measurements and Science Lab at the Naval Surface Warfare Center at Corona, California. During my internship, the Coordinate Measurement Machine was out of tolerance, and I oversaw analyzing if any parts were at risk of being inaccurately measured. Additionally, I calibrated gages used in the field by the US Navy. I was nervous accepting this internship because I had never worked at a company before. However, I had welcoming mentors who helped me navigate my internship. Before this internship, I had no exposure to the military industry. I met new people and learned about others' experiences that I had not had exposure to. My experiences with this internship will further help me consider various view points, be aware of different demographics, and improve my ability to work in a team in a industry setting.
